Brazil Nut Cheese
Simple, quality ingredients make all the difference! This “cheese alternative” is made with only 3 ingredients and you will NEVER miss cheese after you try it! If you closed your eyes, you might believe the brazil nut cheese was actually parmesan. Use as a substitute for "cheese" topping on a pizza, lasagna or even “cheese” for a salad. It is dairy free and nutritious! Brazil nuts are high in selenium, a powered antioxidant that many of us are deficient in. Just two Brazil nuts a day will do the trick! What is Nutritional Yeast?
Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast containing protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants often used in vegan cooking.
Many vegans use nutritional yeast because it is a good source of B vitamins that most of us get for animal products. But nutritional yeast gives food a cheesy/ nutty/ savory flavor without the guilt of cheese so others cook with it also.
Nutritional yeast is versatile and works well with most diets or eating styles. It is low in salt, fat, is dairy, gluten and sugar free!
Is it different from regular yeast to bake bread?
There are 3 types of yeast, bakers, brewers and nutritional yeast. Nutritional is the only yeast “not alive” or deactivated at the final product.
There are two types of nutritional yeast, fortified and unfortified. The unfortified does have synthetic vitamins added. Unfortified still have B vitamins naturally produced by yeast as it grows. The unfortified version is my recommended version as some people have gene types that don't respond well to synthetic vitamins. Especially if you are using for the taste like me.
What do I use it on?
Sprinkle on popcorn, salad and pasta, quinoa, rice, etc.
Stir into soups for an umami flavor
It is a great cheesy flavor in non-dairy vegan sauces!
Where do I buy it ?
Nutritional yeast is sold as flakes, granules or powder online and in most large grocery stores or health stores in the “health section”.
**Bonus- it lasts for two years in a cool dry place.
So give it a try, it will not go to waste and you will thank me!
